Western Australian Division

The WA Division are small and mighty!
We would love your help to reach more of our electorate and make more of an impact:
Awareness of Australian Democrats
So many people are not aware that the Australian Democrats are still active. We continue to be an evidence-informed advocate for all Australians and act with integrity, transparency and trust. We need to work on spreading the message to WA people that we are still here however, and revive what was a strong following in Australia.
We still need to ‘keep the bastards honest’ - some would say more so now than ever in WA - where there is almost a monopoly in the Parliament and an all but decimated opposition. With Just 4 lower house seats, we could be the opposition in WA! Sadly, we don’t have the resources to achieve that this time around. Next time it will be harder, as the tide will start to turn.
You can help us spread the word by liking and following us on all the major social media channels, and sharing with friends and families.
Membership Growth and Engagement
As a volunteer led organisation, we are only ever as strong as those who step up to volunteer. Until we reclaim our position in Parliaments across this great country, we must continue to strengthen our base as a priority.
You can help us with this goal by becoming a member of the Australian Democrats and volunteering to help us in any way that works for you.
You may never have volunteered for a political party before and don’t think you have anything to offer, but you would be surprised. There are so many different ways to help, even if it’s just agreeing to have a sign on your lawn during election campaigns, or handing out how to vote cards at election booths, or sharing your wisdom when we’re forming policy. It all helps immensely.
Funding to enable effective campaigning
We are caught in the catch-22 of needing to fundraise to reach more members, but needing more members to assist with fundraising. We must be financially sustainable as an organisation to go back to making the sort of impact on the future of our community and planet that we know we can. Our fundraising dollars enable us to contest elections on behalf of our members and communities.
Message from Lisa Griffiths, WA Division President
Hi, I’m Lisa Griffiths, the President of the WA Division of the Australian Democrats and a former WA campaign Manager for the 2022 federal election, where we ran 2 senate candidates. I have also been a member and candidate for a major party, campaigning, fundraising and chairing their Health Policy Committee for many years. My background is in public health, (in my 29th year currently) as a Senior Medical Scientist in diagnostic pathology. I was a single Mum, raised by a single Mum, got a degree and MBA raising my three children, and am now a Nan to 4. The many challenges life has thrown at me has given me a realistic perspective on the needs of all Western Australians and the problems they can face.

I have spent my scientific career researching, analysing, and interpreting data to assist in the diagnostic process. The evidence-based approach that the Democrats have to policy making resonates strongly with me. Our focus is making it work, not making a headline, never oppositionist for the sake of opposing, and not sacrificing good for perfect. We champion diversity and choice, and are willing to move on from ‘tradition’ - if it no longer serves us.
Please consider joining us and help us to bring back the balance and some real scrutiny in our parliaments.
Warm regards,
Lisa
