Why We Are Australian Democrats

and why we would like you to join us

EQUITABLE DISTRIBUTION of the NATIONS WEALTH

While most Australian citizens can expect a satisfactory standard of living there is institutional inequity imbedded in Australia's democratic system. Inequity is at the core of Australia's structural disadvantage and prejudice against our most vulnerable citizens. The Australian Democrats supports consensus government, where evidence-based research is used to equitably distribute the nations resources to all it’s citizens. We strive for quality, affordable housing for all, essential services and infrastructure that are managed to improve standards of living (not improve the profit margins of private enterprises), affordable health and education, protection for our most vulnerable citizens and a taxation system where everyone pays their fair share.

TRAINING and EDUCATION

Australia's skill and expertise standards has been gutted by decades of neglect. With every manufacturing job that goes offshore Australia loses more of its independence. The Australian Democrats support quality, affordable education for all Australians. We want to see a return to this country producing and value adding on our resources through manufacturing. We know this will come from rebuilding our skills base through education.

RECOGNITION of INDIGENOUS CULTURE and RECTIFYING GROSS DISADVANTAGE

If you, as an Australian citizen (due to no fault of your own) could expect to live a shorter life with much worse health than other Australians, be more likely to be incarcerated and less likely to receive a quality education, while there had been multiple attempts to extinguish your advanced (but different) culture and society; be angry and resentful while wanting justice? I know I would. The Australian Democrats support our indigenous brothers and sisters (Fellow Australians) struggle to receive the rights and services that the rest of us take for granted.

Australia must once again be recognised as a sovereign country that obeys the rules of international law. Over the last couple of decades of poor behaviour and a disregard for international laws and norms, the perception of corruption in Australia has risen and our international standing has plummeted. The Australian Democrats would like to see a return to a time when Australia was considered a good global citizen.

We ask you to consider becoming an Australian Democrat because a strong AD presence in government results in open and transparent decision making that benefits all Australians. To become a force that ensures integrity in our democratic system we require members. Please consider joining us, we are all volunteers who believe in Australian democracy.

Message from Darren Robinson

South Australia Division President (Acting)

My name is Darren, I am 57 years old and have returned to South Australia after having many jobs around Australia and the world. I spent 15 years in the RAAF and I was also a surveyor working in mining and civil construction. I am now at Uni studying a combined Science and Arts degree in Geography and Chemistry while working part time as a school Student Support Officer.

I firmly believe in democracy and consensus governance where all Australians participate.

I also believe in evidence-based decision making when distributing public resources.

I want to live in a society where all citizens human rights are protected and we use natural resources sustainably.

Yours Sincerely,

Darren Robinson
